A great city for dog lovers

Stockholm is a dog-friendly city, with plenty of parks and green spaces where you and your dog can take a walk or relax. Many hotels, shopping malls and restaurants welcome four-legged guests, but be sure to do a double check in advance to avoid being denied entry if you have your dog with you.

Dogs on public transport

Getting around Stockholm with a dog is easy and hassle-free! Dogs are welcome on SL’s buses, metro, commuter trains, and trams at no extra charge. They must sit on the floor or in your lap and are not allowed to occupy seats. Some areas on public transport have designated spaces for dogs, so keep an eye out for signs.

Leash rules and keeping the city clean

In Stockholm, it’s important to know where and when your dog needs to be on a leash. In urban areas, parks, and public spaces, leash laws generally apply. In nature reserves, dogs must always be leashed and kept under control to avoid disturbing wildlife. However, designated dog parks and dog-friendly beaches allow them to roam freely.

As a responsible dog owner, you’re also expected to pick up after your pet to keep the city’s streets, parks, and nature areas clean for everyone. Always carry waste bags and dispose of them in designated bins or regular trash bins if none are available.
