Docked dogs
In Sweden, it is illegal to dock a dog’s ears or tail. For a dog that has been tail-docked or is born in another country, there are restrictions on which trials, competitions, and assessments it is allowed to participate in.
Dog shows
As a rule, ear- or tail-docked dogs are not allowed to participate in dog shows. However, there are exceptions for some tail-docked dogs, but not for ear-docked dogs. These exceptions apply to the dogs listed below. For full details, please read our show regulations under section 6: Prohibited from taking part in shows, trials and competitions.
- A dog born in Sweden whose tail has been docked/amputated in Sweden for veterinary reasons.
- A dog belonging to FCI Group 7 (pointing dogs) that was born and tail-docked in a country where docking was legal at the time or whose tail was amputated for veterinary reasons.
- Dogs born without a naturally full-length tail, from breeds listed in the Exhibition and Championship Rules under Section 6: Disqualifications for Participation in Shows, Trials, Competitions, and Assessments, are allowed to participate in shows and conformation evaluations.
